Time is the most important thing a man can spend, but more often than not in business we see people spending time unwisely. Time management is so important to be successful in any industry. Effective time management ensures your business achieves its goals promptly and doing so will get you ahead of the curve. But how does one go about managing their time efficiently? Today we will outline 6 rules for effective time management that you can follow to and save that valuable time for the important tasks.

  1. Plan Effectively

Without planning, there is a lack of control. Likewise, this is the case for time planning, without looking ahead you cannot manage things effectively. Effective time planning might involve:

  • Outlining the important tasks each day and allocating time to each

  1. Set Deadlines

Deadlines are crucial in time management they give us a timeframe within to work. You should always set deadlines for yourself. After you’ve set deadlines you must:

  • Work hard to complete the task before the deadline
  • Take ownership of work
  • Keep track of your progress

 

  1. Delegate Responsibility

No man is an island, involving those around you with responsibility helps to lighten your load and ensures the task gets completed in a more timely manner.

  • Delegate roles to individuals based on skills and interests
  • Learn to say “No” in the workplace.
  • Don’t take on work you don’t understand completely

 

  1. Prioritize Tasks

Learning to prioritize high importance work is essential for effective time management. Identify and distinguish tasks by level of importance. Outline what needs to be done today, this week, this month and so on.  Do the important tasks first.

  1. Spend Your Time Wisely

Spend the allocated time on each activity, don’t drag out a one hour task over three because you can’t face the next one. Start getting into the habit of doing everything at the right time.
